The Jury

The Organising Committee of Monde Selection Wines appoints the judges, all of them are eminent experts coming from all over Europe. They are selected according to their recognised proficiency and competencies.

An  objective tasting

For the evaluation, the judges focus on the sensory qualities of the wine. The panel of judges is international and composed of technical experts in the field:

  • Oenologists
  • Sommeliers
  • Professors and lecturers
  • Wine controllers and experts

This is a real advantage which gives each distinction awarded by Monde Selection Wines an exclusive and serious value.

Mr. Marc Kuhn, who chairs the Jury of the International Wine Contest is is a world-renowed oenologist.

Our tasting methodology

For its International Wine Contest, Monde Selection applies international regulations strictly regarding the organisation of the wine contest.

The judges blind taste the wines according to the tasting sheets of OIV and UIOE (The International Union of Oenologists).

The files of each participating product, including the laboratory analyses, are analyzed before the contest by:

  • The Federal Public Service of Belgium, (General Management – Economic Inspection)
  • Experts appointed by the Organising Committee

Each member of the jury will blind taste the products presented to them by grape variety and origin and will individually complete a tasting sheet in compliance with the OIV and UIOE.

The tasting sheet includes the technical analysis of the following parameters: the visual aspect, the nose, the mouth and the overall harmony of the wine.

The tasting sheets will be collected and checked by the Federal Public Service Economy of Belgium.

Depending on the average points given by each of the experts, the products will be awarded with a Bronze medal, a Silver medal, a Gold medal or a Grand Gold medal.

This will always be done in accordance with the regulations applicable for wine contests in Europe:

“The number of medals awarded to samples that have obtained the best results, must not exceed 30% of the total number of samples presented in the contest.”
